Well, you know how I want to end this, yah?! Couples who run together, stay together. I totally believe this. Listen. There is a lot more that goes into the relationship–I get it. However, hear…or read me out. Yah?
Running strips you bare. There is a reason that most won’t put themselves through what it takes to run a mile, three, or twenty-six…because it’s HARD! There are no two ways around it. However, that’s one of a million reasons why I do it. I love being part of something bigger than me and something that usually stops many people in their tracks. I love a good challenge. And running is absolutely a great challenge.
So, this brings me to why I am pausing the day to write about this.
When you run with your partner and go through the emotional journey that running takes you on…well, there is no doubt that most of those couples are better and closer for it! At least that’s what I have witnessed and certainly found in my own life.
I had two people in my class this morning who are a couple and for the sake of preserving this moment I am going to blog about, I won’t reveal their names
This morning was the second time they have come to my running WODs at the Black Box together. I love having them because they are most definitely CrossFitters and like most, running is not the most enjoyable part of CrossFit–but come they do to the CFE WODs.
Both times, I was privy to something that most wouldn’t have had the chance to notice in their oxygen deprived state. That ‘something’ was the moment that occurred between each interval. As we finished each sprint, the first thing that the ‘boyfriend’ did was turn and look for his ‘girlfriend’ for a much sought after fist-bump and a ‘good job!’ acknowledgement.
It was a subtle acknowledgment that most would overlook. Who knows, quite possibly even this couple might not think twice about this small moment that obviously comes naturally to them. But, it most definitely brought a smile to my face each time. The simple reasoning is because it speaks to a greater, more impressive level of their relationship that involves respect for the hard work being put in at that time.
Beyond the fact that I just really like them both so much individually, today’s moment alone was super lovely and makes me love them even more!
So, if you are wondering if running with your mate is a good idea or not…try it on for size and then let me know if it’s as special as I believe it is, yah? And if you did enjoy it..don’t forget that ‘must-have’ fist bump with them, yah?!
