I run. I am a runner. Full Stop. The one constant in my life since I was 9 years old is a pair of running shoes.
My running career began at that age of 9 when my dad wanted to lose a few winter pounds. We ran from telephone pole to telephone pole until we entered our first 5K race. From there I was hooked. I beat all the boys in junior high school, kept running through high school and at the collegiate level at a division 1 college.
My first marathon was a means to qualify for the Boston Marathon, which I did easily in the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C. But, I didn’t stop there. I have run marathons the last 16 years and now have moved onto ultra marathons as my distance of choice.
Running is something so personal and formative for me and I have always wanted to share it with others. I have done just that by taking people who have never run a single step in their life, training them for 12 weeks, and then watching them cross the finish line at a half marathon with the most inspiring and elated expressions. There is nothing more rewarding to me than seeing how that moment changes their lives forever by showing them that anything truly is possible.
It’s all about shattering your self-imposed limitations and seeing the opportunity that lies on the other side. As for my own self-imposed limitations. I am currently shattering those with ultra marathons and my new love–crossfit! Yep, I am most definitely an endorphin junkie and crossfit has most certainly wet that appetite.
So, if you are looking for a place to find motivation, you’ve clicked to the right site. I will challenge you to reach deep down inside and find ‘your’ inner athlete, and along the way watch as you re-define what is possible. I am going the distance, and there is always room for one more!
